Delinquent garbage, false alarm bills assessed

City Council held a public hearing on delinquent garbage and refuse and false alarm calls at its Tuesday meeting. Council moved to assess property owners on 2022 taxes for unpaid refuse and false alarm bills. As of Oct. 19, the city has been unable to collect payment on $30,040.80 on outstanding garbage bills from 213 properties, and $130 for one parcel for false alarm service. Donations from downtown businesses will be used to replace snowflake lights

City Council accepted a donation, totaling $7,175, from 12 downtown businesses for the replacement of decorative snowflake lights. The new lights will be installed on light poles in downtown Shakopee during the holiday season. City Council expressed their gratitude for the generous donation. Comcast denied exception to cable undergrounding

City Council denied an exception request submitted by Comcast to install overhead fiber optic cables along Marschall Road between Shakopee Avenue and Vierling Drive. City Code calls for underground installation of new utilities services. Engineering staff determined that Comcast did not meet requirements for an exception. Baseball Booster Club to provide extra seating at Schleper Stadium

City Council accepted a donation of a new deck for fan seating at Schleper Stadium as well as the expansion of an existing deck. The Shakopee High School Booster Club have donated the funds to build a new 12-foot by 30-foot deck along the first base line at Schleper Stadium at Tahpah Park. The existing 24-foot by 8-foot deck would have an additional 24- foot by four-foot section added. The decks will be matching in style and built from low maintenance lumber. Public works to purchase de-icing brine maker

City Council approved the purchase of an Aspen Equipment street de-icing brine maker for the Public Works Streets Division. Brine is applied to city streets prior to snow and icing events, to improve driving conditions.
