Dark Knight Rises Showings Still on in Shakopee After Colorado Shootings

The much-hailed premiere of the final installment in the Batman movie series was met with tragedy last night after a gunman opened fire in a packed Colorado theater killing 12 people and wounding dozens of others.

The incident took place at a midnight showing of the new Batman film, "The Dark Knight Rises" at the Century 16 theater in Aurora, Colo.

A post on the 's Facebook page, posted at about 11:30 a.m. today follows:

"We are saddened by the tragedy in Aurora, Colorado, this morning. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, the associates at the Century Theater and the Aurora, CO community. 

These senseless, random acts of violence, by disturbed individuals, can happen anywhere, but had never occurred in a U.S. movie theatre in its 110-year history. Safety and security of our guests and associates is always a priority concern. We will take appropriate measures to have our security precautions in place today and every day.

All showings of “Dark Knight Rises” and all other motion pictures at all Marcus Theatres will go on as scheduled."

The Shakopee theater is offering showings of "Dark Knight Rises" every hour starting daily at noon with the last showing at 10 p.m. The film runs 2 hours 44 minutes.

Shakopee Mayor Brad Tabke was slated to appear on KARE-11 News early Friday morning to talk about his Saturday but tweeted that because of "the horrific Colorado shootings, our Canterbury Park segment for 6:40 this morning was cancelled."
