, 18, of Shakopee: 17:44.2

Hauger was the first woman to finish the race and is featured in the Star Tribune today in a story about training in this extremely warm summer.

The winner of three Class 2A cross-country state titles, Hauger said she has put in more than 60 miles per week this summer, often in the early morning and evening hours.

Shakopee coach Mark Neu said in the story he worries about kids like Maria, who have high goals and need to get their base miles in in order to compete in cross-country this fall.

"We've been telling our kids to avoid running during the hottest part of the day and to run close to home," he told the Star Tribune.
