Pet Store Ordinance, Dog Park Naming, and Shutterfly
Also on the Shakopee City Council agenda is the promotion of staff and a discussion on mayor and council members salaries.

The Shakopee City Council has a full agenda for their meeting on Wednesday. The meeting will start at 7 p.m. at city hall.
Pet shop ordinance:
The Shakopee Police Department will ask the council for guidance on whether or not to move ahead with an ordinance for pet shops. The department's request stems from complaints surrounding Eagle Pet Center. Staff would draft an ordinance based on work with the Animal Humane Society and reviews of pet shop ordinances in other cities.
Shutterfly expansion:
The council will discuss economic incentives for Shutterfly. The company is asking for a tax abatement from 2016 to 2024. Shutterfly expects to add 329 jobs to its facility in the next two to five years.Â
Compass Datacenter:
The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) will potentially grant a Minnesota Investment Fund forgivable loan of up to $90,000 to Compass Datacenter. The council will need to agree to allow staff to apply for the grant and enter into agreement with DEED and Compass Datacenter.
Salaries of city elected officials:
After comparing current salaries of Shakopee elected officials with that of other cities, staff will recommend an annual salary of $10,000 for the mayor and $7,500 for council members. The council will discuss the recommendations and whether or not to implement them for 2014.
Interim council member:
Three former council members have told staff that they are willing to serve as interim council member. Those three are: Patrick Heitzman, Terry Joos and Joseph Helkamp. The recommendation is that the council interview the three at a council workshop as part of the process for appointing an interim council member.Â
Highlights from the city council consent agenda:
The Park and Recreation Advisory Board has recommended a name for the dog park coming to Shakopee: Southbridge Community Park. The board chose the name because it will represent the location of the park.
Current Planner I Kyle Sobota will be promoted to planner II. Sobota has been in the planner I position for eight years and will fill the vacancy left by the resignation of Julie Klima, the former planner II.
