AND…pending favorable weather, at 6:30 we will release floating lanterns!!!
Parks & Rec has done a wonderful job organizing this event (previously our Jack Frost Rockin’ New Year’s Eve) with amazing support from the Shakopee Lions Club! We have 84 biodegradable lanterns and will be giving out one per family on a first-come-first-served basis. The fire chief has given the approval to do this and as long as there are calm winds, there is no risk with the floating lanterns in Minnesota because they do not descend until the flame goes out. Flying lanterns have become tradition in many places throughout the country - Two Rivers, Wisconsin & Detroit.

Winterfest will be a great night of community and I hope we can make this annual event and attraction in Shakopee!
