POLL: Derby Days Gets Emergency $10,000 From City to Keep Fireworks From Falling Flat
Derby Days President Jack McGovern told councilors July 17 only $1,000 had been raised for the show.

This was nearly the year Derby Days fireworks didn't light up the sky.
But, thanks to a last-minute sizeable donation from the city of Shakopee Tuesday, the show will go on at dusk Saturday, Aug. 4 in .
The city council voted to approve a one-time $10,500 donation to the fireworks show, because organizers told them at their July 17 meeting they had only raised $1,000 for the show up to that point. Councilors Matt Lehman and Pamela Schurman voted against the measure.

The money will come from tax dollars in an unallocated line item of the city's 2012 budget.
Others who donated to fireworks include:Â Shakopee Public Utilities, , Shakopee Lions Club and the Metropolitan Dance Alliance.
