Letter to Editor: Scott County Relay for Life Organizers Thank You

On behalf of the Relay For Life of Scott County Planning Committee, we would like to thank all those who helped to make this year's so successful. Whether you participate on a team, volunteer or made a donation, we really appreciate your commitment to Relay and to the fight against cancer.

On July 13th, 42 teams gathered at the to raise funds for the American Cancer Society. Our Relay raised more than $157,000 for patient services, education, research & advocacy. Together we have raised over $2 million in the past 15 years here in Scott County.

Because of the threat for rain and storms, our event was held in the Shakopee Junior High School. This was only the second time in 15 years the event was moved indoors. Thank you to the Shakopee School District for allowing us to move our event inside the Junior High. Their staff was AMAZING to work with. We realize that this year was disappointing in some aspects and did not feel the same as when we are outdoors and can walk by lit luminaria all night long. However we feel very fortunate that we were able to enjoy as much of the event as we did. 

We came together as family, friends, neighbors and co-workers to Celebrate, Remember and Fight Back. We believe we accomplished that. We extend an invitation to all to come back again next year and experience Relay the way it is intended...outside walking by lit luminaria!

The ACS Relay For Life is about being a community that takes up the fight. There is no finish line until we find a cure. Thank you again to everyone involved with our 15th Annual "Celebrate, Remember, Fight Back" Relay. Let's keep up the great work; we are making a difference in the fight against cancer!
