Outdoor Rinks Open Saturday

Skaters can enjoy the rinks through Feb. 16.

Start sharpening those ice skates. Shakopee’s outdoor skating rinks open for the season Saturday.

The city’s five warming houses will be open from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays and from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. on weekends. Attendants will be on duty and the rink will be lit during those times. Since rentals aren’t available, skaters will need to bring their own skates.

This year Shakopee opened a new warming house and hockey rink at Riverside Fields Park (7800 Crossings Blvd.). Warming houses are also at:

  • Green Meadows Park (3100 Thrush St.): Hockey and pleasure rinks, as well as a warming house.
  • Lions Park (1103 Adams St.): Play hockey or just skate on the pleasure rink at Shakopee’s most popular park.
  • Scenic Heights Park (1195 Ruby Lane): Outdoor rink, pleasure rink for non-hockey players and a warming house.
  • Westminster Park (801 Valley View Drive E.): Hockey rink, pleasure rink and warming house.

Pleasure rinks without warming houses are also located at Hiawatha Park (625 Seventh Ave. E.) and Holmes Park (628 Fourth Ave. W.).

Outdoor skating rinks will remain open through Feb. 16, weather permitting. Ice rinks and warming houses will be closed when the wind-chill temperature drops below –15 degrees and or the air temperature is below –10 degrees.

Rinks will also have special hours of operation on the following days:

  • Dec. 24-25: Closed
  • Dec. 23, 26, 27, 30: 1 to 8 p.m. Dec. 31: 1-6 p.m.
  • Jan. 1, 20, 27: 1 to 8 p.m.
  • Feb. 2: 1 to 5 p.m.
