Savage Depot Closes After Nearly Four Years

"Everybody's bistro" at Highway 13 and 123rd Street in Savage is no more.

The Savage Depot, which opened shortly after owner Jim Lewis bought it in December 2008, has closed. Lewis is citing recent construction along Highway 13 as at least part of the business's demise, according to a report by the Savage Pacer.

Lewis and his son and cook, Hunter Lewis, were moving items out of the historic building on Wednesday morning.

"It sucks," Hunter Lewis said.

According Jim Lewis's Facebook page, he opened the Depot as a bistro offering espresso, wine, beer and chef-driven foods after spending 25 years developing global sales and marketing strategies for IT companies.

The depot was built in 1880 by the Chicago, Minneapolis and Omaha railroads, according to the Dan Patch Historical Society website. The historic building had spent time at what was then Murphy's Landing (now ) in Shakopee from the 1970s until 2006, when it was moved back to Savage.
