Shakopee City Council Approves $1 Million New Roof for Community Center

Brad Tabke: "We approved (replacing) the roof because it must be done."

Shakopee City Council members approved going forward with a new roof for the at their regular meeting Tuesday – despite the fact that it will cost four times the original estimate.

"We approved (replacing) the roof because it must be done," Shakopee Mayor Brad Tabke wrote in a post on his website today. "The roof is leaking significantly over the gym area and causing damage to the building."

The cost? Just over $1 million to replace the entire roof, which includes a 25 year warranty. "With this investment, the Community Center infrastructure is hopefully in place for the next quarter century," Tabke added.
