Shakopee City Council's Closed Session on Fire Station Sale Nets More Brewery Negotation

The Shakopee City Council met behind closed doors Tuesday night to discuss the sale of the downtown fire station located at 334 Second Ave. W.Â
According to Shakopee City Adminstrator Mark McNeill, "the net result is that staff will continue to negotiate with the micro brewery proposal."

At the end of July, Â with a grand opening tentatively set for June 2013.Â
The recently-formed River Valley Cooperative Arts, an organization that formed with this facility in mind, has proposed repurposing the fire station as a cultural community center.

Other highlights of the open city council meeting per Shakopee Mayor Brad Tabke's website post:
- Allocated money to Scott County Meth Task Force to help combat heroin and other drug use.
- Approved stop signs on Polk St x 13th Ave (there were none before)
- Invested in new, energy-efficient lighting fixtures in
- Approved changing school zone signs to ‘When Children are Present’ (more information to come on this in the future)
- Approved money to raise the trail along 18 north of Glacier Estates so it doesn’t flood
- Voted to begin rezoning the land east of to allow retail development
- Approved sign ordinance changes allowing business’s electronic signs to change each minute
- Reinstituted the commercial Facade Improvement Program offering forgivable loans to encourage businesses improving the look of their business. (up to $15,000/60% match from business)
- Gave direction to MnDOT to use available money for aesthetic improvements for the coming 69×169 bridge. Lights/brick/limestone to match city character.
