Scott Co. Educator Named Finalist for Burnsville Superintendent

Darren Kermes is one of two candidates still in the running for superintendent of the Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District.

Burnsville may yet lure away the executive director of two Scott County-based educational cooperatives.

The Burnsville-Eagan-Savage Board of Education was impressed by Darren Kermes, who has been named one of two finalists for superintendent of the district. Currently, Kermes is the executive director both the Carver-Scott Educational Cooperative (CSEC) and the Minnesota River Valley Special Education Cooperative (MRVSEC), which serve non-traditional and special needs students from a cluster of southwest metro school districts, including Shakopee.

Kermes is up against Joe Gothard, assistant superintendent of the Madison Metropolitan School District in Wisconsin. By all accounts, the two men have very different leadership styles.

Next week, Kermes and Gothard will each go through an extensive, all-day trial in Burnsville. If all goes according to plan, the Board will make its final selection on April 11. The new superintendent will take over on July 1, one day after the retirement of current Superintendent Randy Clegg.
