Shakopee Man Charged with Stealing from Grandfather

Troy John Gibson faces two felony charges in connection with the June theft.

A Shakopee man has been charged with stealing jewelry from his grandfather over the summer and pawning it at a Burnsville pawn shop.

Troy John Gibson, 19, faces two felony charges in Dakota County: theft and possession of stolen property, each of which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

According to the criminal complaint, Farmington police were notified July 23 that more than $1,000 worth of jewelry had been stolen from a home in Farmington.

The victim told police that he suspected his grandson, Gibson, of taking the jewelry. He said he confronted Gibson, who admitted to him that he took the items and pawned them at Pawn America in Burnsville.

The victim said Gibson told him that he had taken the jewelry a few weeks before July 23.

Police obtained surveillance video of Gibson pawning the jewelry on June 30.

Gibson is scheduled to make a first appearance on the charges Dec. 5 in Dakota County District Court in Hastings.
