Nearly 60 cars competed in the Mt. Holly Days Pinewood Derby Days Saturday near downtown Shakopee.

Haeg is the somewhat tongue-in-cheek mayor of his own town, Mt. Holly, which consists of the residence he shares with wife Tammy Dahlke and their two kids, near downtown Shakopee on Holmes Street.

On a regulation track on the sidewalk outside his home, at least 100 people gathered to cheer on the races, chow down and celebrate community Saturday afternoon. 

"Visiting dignitaries" included Shakopee Mayor Brad Tabke and family.

The competition at times became fiercely hilarious as cars that sailed a little too quick to the finish were met with chants of "Weigh that car!" Some were disqualified after hitting the scale.

When the competition was whittled down to the final four, all remaining competitors were under age 12.

"That's so cool," Dahlke said. "The finalists are all kids!"

In the end, the fastest car belonged to Emmett Maynor. Bella Jurewicz took second while her brother Eli Jurewicz took third place.

While there were rules, Haeg encourged participants to "strictly ignore" the list of Cub Scout prohibited items, so a car fueled by Co2 cartridge and a "rocket" car burned their way down the track after officials cleared the area.
