Shakopee Police Offering Classes to Youth and Adults

Applications for the Citizen Police Academy are due by Sept. 2.

Shakopee Police will be hosting a resistance class early next week, the department announced in a news release. Anyone can attend, but the class is for youth aged 12 to 16. Parents are encouraged to attend as well.

Class topics:

  • Drug and alcohol abuse
  • At-risk behaviors
  • Gang resistance

Translation from English to Spanish will be provided.

The class is scheduled for Tuesday, July 16 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Registration is not required.

Shakopee Police are also accepting applications for its Citizen Police Academy. Starting Sept. 12 through Oct. 17, the class will meet on Thursdays from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

“The course is offered to anyone who lives, works or has a vested interest in Shakopee and who wishes to experience the many facets law enforcement as encountered by Shakopee officers,” according to the release.

It is a free class, but there are some eligibility requirements. The application and more information is available on the City of Shakopee website.
