Shakopee Renames County Road 21 for Soldier Who Died in Iraq
The road has been renamed "Hergott Memorial Drive," after the Shakopee resident who was the first Minnesotan to die in the Iraq War.

On July 3, 2003, Private James Edward Herrgott, 20, was shot and killed by a sniper in front of the National Museum in Baghdad. He was the first Minnesotan killed in Iraq and the 46th Shakopee resident to die in service since the Civil War.
On Monday, during a Memorial Day ceremony, Shakopee Mayor Brad Tabke unveiled a "Herrgott Memorial Drive" nameplate, renaming County Road 21 in Shakopee (and on tribal land) after the soldier.
"I am very pleased that we are recognizing [...] all those who have given their lives to a cause much larger than themselves," Tabke said. "When we honor one soldier, we honor them all."
