Three Shakopee Teens Arrested for Stealing Items From Unlocked Vehicles
Shakopee Police Capt. Chris Dellwo: "Lock your doors."

Two separate incidents of vehicle thefts in Shakopee last week have one thing in common.
“All these cars were unlocked,” Shakopee Police Capt. Chris Dellwo said. “So there’s your lesson. Lock your doors.”
On April 12, just after midnight, police got a call from a man who said he had walked outside his house on the 400 block of Orchard Parkway to find the dome light on in his car and a man sitting in it. He said the man was rummaging through his things and when confronted, he ran off, Dellwo said.

The caller was able to give a good description and police later arrested two Shakopee men, ages 18 and 19, who were in possession of backpacks of stolen property. Items included a laptop computer, an iPod, GPS, Nintendo Game Boy, pocket knives, cologne and other miscellaneous items such as a Frisbee, according to police. Three people from the same neighborhood have called in to report items stolen from cars, Dellwo said.
He said the men have not yet been charged at least in part because they are waiting on dollar values on the items before determining if the charges will be at the felony level.

In the second incident, witnesses reported a teen near some cars at about 4:30 a.m. April 14 on Savanna Drive near Deans Lake. Officers located a 17-year-old Shakopee boy nearby with an empty backpack, but they found a credit card in his wallet and sunglasses that had reportedly been stolen from nearby vehicles. Dellwo said items were stolen out of seven vehicles that morning.
