POLL: Valleyfair Power Outage Prompts Policy Talks With Shakopee Police and Fire

Shakopee police and fire were not called during which left people stranded on rides for up to 20 minutes, in some cases, 100 feet in the air.

Although staff evacuated people and closed the park, the fact that local authorities were not called has them talking about whether a policy should be created for power outages, according to a KSTP-5 News report.

Shakopee Police Capt. Craig Robson said in the report he spoke with Valleyfair officials Wednesday morning about why they weren't called. Officials said they have their own policy in place that didn't escalate to the level of needing to call emergency personnel.

No one was injured in the incident and the park reopened Wednesday morning.

Valleyfair officials posted on Facebook today that they would be open regular hours and have fireworks tonight as scheduled.

"We appreciate everyone's patience and apologize for any inconvenience," the post said.

Xcel Energy has said the cause of the power outage was an equipment failure on their part.
