Keller 'Has a lot of Fight in Him'

Derrick Keller, the former baseball star who has as he tries to recover from leukemia, has shown signs of improvement, his family reports.

On Keller's CaringBridge page, his family notes that despite some grim signs, Keller is showing plenty of fight:

This morning DK made some progress. He is stable, isn't bleeding as much in the bladder, blood pressure is better, and the ECMO is helping oxinate his blood better. He is, as a doctor told us, "Right where we want him now." He needs to stay this way for about three weeks, so his lungs can heal.

There are two people in his room 24 hours a day now. One watches the ECMO, and the other watches everything else. He is in very good hands.  A nurse told me today that most people wouldn't make it this far. We have had a lot of doctors and nurses tell us that Derrick has a lot of fight in him, and a real will to live. They also say he is a tough kid, and his being in shape when he got there, and his positive attitude, has taken him a long way.

These words have came out of my mouth many times, "I'm not going to beg you for nothing" Now, these words are coming out of my mouth, "Please, please, I beg of you to keep the prayers coming." I am convinced that these are helping, and DK needs a lot more. I am also going to pray that I never have to pay any of you back for your children...
