Keller Showing Some Improvement

After recently being , or CMV, former St. Louis Park baseball star Derrick Keller is showing some signs of improvement, his family reports via CaringBridge:

Today they weaned Derrick's blood pressure medicine in half. They also cut the settings on the oscillator, which means he isn't needing as much oxygen from the machine. The blood in his urine is gone. The oxygen in his blood is much better. This is all really good news. They're even talking about getting his oscillator down to zero, so they can put him back on the ventilator.

If this is such good news, why are we so miserable? It is really hard to see DK in that bed, all hooked up to so many wires and IV's. I have been thinking a lot about all that has happened in this past year. It's obviously the worst year in my life. The only good memories I have, is of the times when Derrick was home and we talked about so many things.

He talked to Linda, he talked to me, and sometimes he would sit down and talk to both of us. This was a new thing for all of us. There were some noticeable differences in DK when he was home. There is something else that happens every night at 9:30, that makes Linda and I quite sad. Every night when DK was in the hospital, he would call Linda exactly at 9:30 to say goodnight.. It's really weird, but I still expect that call every night. I don't know if I can wait two weeks, to hear Linda's phone ring again at 9:30..................
