Michele Schnitker, housing manager and deputy community development director for the City of St. Louis Park, has received the 2021 Allan Anderson Award of Merit from the Minnesota chapter of the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO).

Established in 1979, the Allan Anderson Award of Merit recognizes a Minnesota NAHRO member who has distinguished themselves with excellence and leadership in their career in housing and/or community development. Annual award recipients exemplify the dedication and leadership needed to serve their communities and residents in providing affordable housing and community development activities.

Schnitker, a 22-year employee of the City of St. Louis Park, has a long history of success in providing affordable housing in the Twin Cities metro region. In her current role, Schnitker is responsible for all City of St. Louis Park housing policies. She also oversees the St. Louis Park Housing Authority, which includes public housing and the Housing Choice Voucher program. Prior to joining St. Louis Park, she served in Dakota County and for the City of Saint Paul.

“For the many years that Michele has served the Housing Authority her knowledge of and dedication to the provision of affordable housing to the residents of St. Louis Park have been exemplary and invaluable,” said St. Louis Park Housing Authority Board Chair Catherine J. Courtney, in a letter supporting Schnitker’s award nomination. “She is deeply passionate about the mission of the Housing Authority and deeply compassionate about our residents.

“During her tenure with the city and the Housing Authority, she has significantly expanded the housing options, programs, and services that we can offer to our residents. Our residents are very well served by Michele,” Courtney concluded.
