Hennepin County Man To Serve 30 Years In Girlfriend's Death
The man was convicted of second-degree murder after running over and killing his girlfriend, the Hennepin County Attorney said.
MINNEAPOLIS, MN — A Hennepin County man will serve 30 years behind bars after being found guilty of killing his girlfriend with her own vehicle in May 2020.
Citing a criminal complaint, the Hennepin County Attorney said 30-year-old Jordan Jefferson, of Robbinsdale, killed his girlfriend on May 29, 2020, near the intersection of 17th Avenue North and Bryant Avenue South.
The attorney said the incident began when an argument between Jefferson and his girlfriend escalated, and he punched her in the face despite another passenger in the back seat trying to intervene.

When the victim got out of the car and began to walk away, Jefferson hit the gas, hitting the woman with his vehicle, the attorney said in a news release. He then continued to drive with her stuck under the car until it hit the porch of a nearby home.
According to the complaint, Jefferson put the woman in the back seat of the car and fled the scene, driving until he crashed again and the vehicle was no longer driveable.

Jefferson then called an acquaintance to pick up him and the witness and prevented both of them from helping the victim or calling 911. Jefferson then told the other woman to drive away and punched her in the face when she was not driving fast enough.
The 30-year sentence came Thursday after a jury found the man guilty of second-degree murder in the slaying of his girlfriend and two counts of felony domestic assault for hitting his girlfriend and the acquaintance.
According to the release, Jefferson denied killing his girlfriend during the trial but ultimately admitted guilt during sentencing. The victim's grandmother, mother and aunt shared impact statements during the trial.
