Roy Dawson and the Bootleggers Bringing Country Twang to Toby Keith's

Roy Dawson and the Bootleggers, a band founded in 2007 by the country crooner, is playing 9:30 p.m. Friday at Toby Keith's Bar and Grill.

Here's more on the band from the venue:

The band set out with the intentions of becoming the best band in the Twin Cities area. Roy pieced together a formidable lineup of talent, though he had no connections to the musical community. With a mix of old and new country as well as a blend of the distinct personalities involved, the band set out to establish themselves in the Twin Cities area. Just looking to get their foot in the door, they had no idea they would soon be busting it down. In Febuary 2008, after only 2 months of playing live shows, Roy and the boys entered K102's Battle of the Bands contest. The band was selected to compete against two other local bands. Even with their lack of experience playing together, the collective talent and help of their loyal fans, helped win the contest! They were rewarded with an appearance at the Xcel Energy Center for a post World's Toughest Rodeo concert!
