The Park Celebrates Arbor Day

Festivities were held Saturday at Oak Hill Park.

On a beautifully sunny Saturday, St. Louis Park residents gathered at Oak Hill Park to celebrate the outdoors on Arbor Day.

The event featured music and games for kids, as well as tree planting for all ages. In addition, more than 40 tree climbers showcased their talents during a qualifier for the International Tree Climbing competition, which will be held this summer.

Arbor Day, or course, is all about trees. The holiday dates back to 1872, when Nebraska City, Nebraska, held an event in which an estimated 1 million trees were planted.

While St. Louis Park didn't hit the 1 million mark on Saturday, about 45 beautiful trees did go into the ground as part of the city's Urban Reforestation Program
