Albertville Youth Receives β€œMake-A-Wish” During AFCD Parade

The 10-year-old youth with Hodgkin's lymphoma received the surprise news from the Albertville Fire Department.

For 10-year-old Myles Bongaarts-Graham of Albertville, the start of the 2013 Albertville Friendly City Days Parade brought the granting of a wish – and a ride with the Albertville Fire Department.

Myles, who has Hodgkin’s lymphoma, had his wish to go to Walt Disney World Resort granted during the AFCD parade June 9, by Make-A-Wish Minnesota.

β€œIt was awesome, humbling experience,” Albertville Fire Chief Tate Mills told Patch. Mills helped surprise Myles during the parade. β€œThe look on his face was unbelievable.”

After receiving news of his wish being granted, Myles had another surprise presented to him – a ride in the Albertville Friendly City Days Parade with the Albertville Fire Department. Myles, his mother and brother rode along – receiving a personal tour of the fire station afterward.

β€œHe’s a great kid,” Mills said.

Myles has not gone on his wish to Walt Disney World ResortΒ yet, according to Make-A-Wish Minnesota.

The Make-a-Wish Minnesota chapter was founded in 1982 and has since granted more than 4,00 wishes statewide. As part of its mission, Make-A-Wish Minnesota grants the wishes β€œof children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.”
