Featuring a lineup with three first-year Traveling Fastpitch team members and only one returning 10U Gold player, St. Michael-Albertville’s top tier 10U team won the Spring Lake Park Tournament on May 12, 2012.
Madeline Jahnke’s home run and three triples led the 10U Gold’s hitting attack. Erin Gilbert pitched a complete game for the opening victory. The team rallied behind third-grader Victoria Kangas’s triple in the second game to defeat the NW Diamonds. Coach Mike Casey used 4 different pitchers leading up to the final inning of the championship game.
The team then turned to the lone returning 10U Gold Player, Abby Erickson, to retire all three batters in the final inning to close out an undefeated tournament.
