Media Tracks Stories Surrounding Wright County Sen. Amy Koch

The media frenzy surrounding the fall of Sen. Amy Koch (R-Buffalo) isn't surprising, given the public's penchant for scandal.

The Minneapolis Star Tribune follows the final hours of Koch’s status as majority leader and the controversial meeting held by her and four other GOP Senators in this article, which ran Monday evening online and in the Tuesday edition of the newspaper.

In the wake of the scandal, a handful of Koch’s colleagues have said they would consider resigning from the Minnesota Senate entirely, rather than serving out the remainder of the term, as Koch plans to do (as of today). Sen. David Hann of Eden Prairie, a candidate for Koch’s former spot as Majority Leader, has said he would step down “if in the same position.” Respected Sen. Bill Ingebrigtsen of Alexandria, another Republican, gave his comments to the Alexandria Echo Press, said “I am very disappointed with recent actions of members of my party. Our employee's deserve to work in a place that does not tolerate inappropriate behavior. I do not condone these wrong doings and will insist on the proper sanctions.”

The state GOP announced it would nominate and elect a new Senate Majority Leader by the middle of next week. That would relegate Koch to her status of a member of the majority and remove her from leadership roles completely. The St. Paul Pioneer Press released more on the Senate GOP’s announcement Wednesday.
