St. Michael-Albertville Community Mourns Loss of "Miss Lisa"

The Kids Play community, which cares for after-school kids, is mourning with the Snaza family for a woman who cared for so many children.

To so many kids, and local parents, she was simply "Miss Lisa."Β

Lisa Snaza, a local mother, was a familiar face for the school community, caring for kids as part of St. Michael-Albertville Community Education's "Kids Play" program.Β

Snaza died Thursday, Nov. 15, surrounded by her family, after a battle with cancer. It was her 46th birthday.Β

"Lisa's son, Jeremy, has become a close 'Friend of St. Michael Patch.' The girls' basketball student manager has provided us with countless sports updates over the past two years," said Patch Regional Editor Mike Schoemer. "We also loved setting him up with Jared Allen. Our thoughts and prayers are with Jeremy and his family at this time."Β

Lisa Kay (Filipi) Snaza was born on Nov. 15, 1966 in St. Louis Park, MN, the daughter of Ben and Shirley Filipi. She grew up in St. Louis Park and graduated from St. Louis Park High School in 1985.

She met Troy Snaza in 1985 through Troy’s brother and they were married on August 25, 1990. The pride and joy of Lisa’s life were her four children Matthew, Timothy, Ashley and Jeremy.Β

In the past 10 years she enjoyed working with the kids at Kids Play in the St. Michael/Albertville school district. She made many friends there; one very special friend, Shelley Swanson, who Lisa said was "like a sister to her."

Lisa passed away peacefully at home on November 15th, 2012, on her 46th birthday, with her loving family present. She was a very strong woman who fought a long and courageous battle with ovarian cancer over the past 4 years.Β

Lisa is survived by her husband Troy, children, Matthew (and fiancΓ© Heidi Lindberg), Timothy, Ashley (and special friend Jesse Blom) and Jeremy, also her beloved dog Marley who gave her much comfort during her treatment process; Her brother, Jeff (Julie) Filipi, sisters Valerie Filipi and Teresa (Sheldon) Hage; Nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Ben and Shirley Filipi.

Lisa will be dearly missed but we are comforted knowing that she is in the loving arms of God and with loved ones in heaven.
