Where Are You Seeing Robins in the St. Michael-Albertville Area?

Have you noticed large groups of robins hanging out in the St. Michael-Albertville area?

When spring arrives in Minnesota, it isn’t unusual to see a robin or two making an appearance, announcing the changing of the seasons.Β

The spring of 2013 is a whole different story.Β

Robins, sometimes in groups of 50 or more, have been making their way around the St. Michael-Albertville area and the Twin Cities. A group has been spotted in Otsego (see photo).Β

Larry Cooke – β€œ I have hundreds at my house too…they’re feeding like crazy on the crabapple trees.”

Are you wondering why we’re getting so many robins? Kirk Mona, a Twin Cities naturalist, writes about it in his latest blog, β€œWhat’s up with all the Robins?”

There are several reasons large numbers of robins are making an appearance in the Twin Cities, according to Mona, among them weather and migration.

β€œPretty much the entire Mississippi Flyway's worth of robins are backed up in the Twin Cities right now,” Mona wrote in his blog. β€œThese are resident birds mixed in with a sizable percentage of all the birds in Canada.”
