Here are the top three stories in Jackson today:

  1. Jackson Police are investigating after an elderly woman was shot during an attempted carjacking at Windsor Park Apartments on Saturday, Jun. 17. According to Captain Mark Hodges, the victim was approached by an unidentified man while she was unloading groceries. The suspect shot the victim in the lower leg when she refused to give him her car keys. Other residents heard the commotion and chased the suspect away. As of Jun. 17, the victim was in stable condition at Merit Health. (WJTV)
  2. On Saturday, Jun. 17, at around 5:00 p.m., one man was killed and another man was injured during a carjacking on Gardenia Street in Jackson. Police are searching for two suspects who shot the victims and stole their 2014 Chevy Cruze. According to authorities, the suspects got out of a white SUV before the incident. (WLBT)
  3. After the severe storm conditions led to significant damage in Jackson on Friday, Jun. 16, Jackson Mayor Chokwe A. Lumumba declared a local emergency effective immediately. Trees and power lines were knocked down and there was damage to city structures, including traffic signals and the Public Safety Communications and Information Building. According to Lumumba, the city will need additional assistance to repair the damage. (WJTV)
