Here are the top three stories today in Jackson:

  1. Jackson is under an extreme risk of dangerous heat stress this week, according to the US National Weather Service of Jackson Mississippi. Temperatures are expected to reach into the 100s for several days, with heat stroke imminent under prolonged outdoor activity. During this time, remember to stay hydrated and avoid strenuous outdoor activities. (US National Weather Service Jackson Mississippi via Facebook)
  2. The Jackson Police Department is currently investigating three homicides. According to the police, 58-year-old Melvin McNair Sr. was shot and killed at 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, a 39-year-old unidentified man was fatally shot around 11:00 p.m. on Sunday, and 22-year-old Myriek Price was shot to death at 1:30 a.m. on Monday.   3. Madison resident Judy Herrington recently survived an ischemic stroke at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, and is now being called a "miracle patient." According to the Chair of UMMC Neurosurgery and Director of the UMMC Stroke Center, in under an hour and a half from the time the stroke alert went out, Herrington already had the procedure to remove the clot from her brain.
