Here are the top three stories in Jackson today:

  1. A drive-by shooting has led to one person dead and another in the hospital. The shooting happened near the 1300 block of Woody Drive, where Tyrique Buckner, 26, was shot and killed after a witness saw a white sedan pass by shooting rounds from the vehicle. Police responded around 6 p.m., where they found Buckner deceased. A woman was also shot and was transported to the hospital. There has been no update on her condition. The investigation is ongoing, and police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact the police department. (WAPT Jackson)
  2. The Voices of Courage and Justice 60th Commemoration is set to begin next week in Jackson. The event will honor civil rights activist Medgar Evers, honoring his life and legacy in the fight for civil rights. Multiple events will be held throughout the week, including youth summits, a gala, and the commemoration ceremony, which will be held at different venues around the city, including various museums and Millsaps College. For tickets and more info on the events, click here. (WLBT)
  3. Two High School Seniors were killed just weeks before graduation. Gabriel Warren and William Ransburgh were both shot before their graduation at Forest Hill High School. Losing two scholars who had bright futures has been hard on Warren and Ransburgh's class. Warren was preparing to enlist in the Marines after graduation. He left such a good impression on the recruiters that they plan to offer a scholarship in the Marine Corps in his name to honor him. (WAPT Jackson)
