Here are the top three stories today in Jackson:
- The Fourth of July is coming up, and there are several events scheduled in and around Jackson. On Tuesday, the Celebrate America Balloon Glow event at Northpark Mall will begin at 5:00 p.m., and attendees will be able to see hot air balloons illuminated in the evening sky. On Monday, Jul. 3, the City of Madison will hold its annual event at Liberty Park beginning at 5:00 p.m. The Mississippi Children's Museum will also be hosting an event on Saturday, Jul. 1 from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. (Clarion Ledger)
- The owner of a Jackson gas station is speaking out after being robbed at gunpoint twice within a week. Ricky Singh was robbed at the gas station he owns on North State Street on Tuesday, Jun. 20, and again on Monday, Jun. 26 by the same suspect. Singh has filed police reports but is frustrated that his vehicle - which was stolen during one of the incidents - has not been recovered. (WJTV)
- As temperatures climb higher, the Briarwood Arts Center at 614 Briarwood Drive will be open as a cooling center for residents. Stephon Brown, the art center's founder and owner, said that the center will provide air conditioning as well as charging stations, workspace, and refrigerator space for people who need it. (WAPT)
