He’s emphasizing accountability and pride in every officer interaction and says he aims to leave the department stronger, with city council confirming him to serve until a new chief is chosen.

Jackson Fire Dept. investigating Hayes Drive fire (wlbt.com) — Firefighters with Jackson Fire Department are investigating what sparked a house fire on Hayes Drive late Thursday afternoon, where crews arrived to find smoke and flames and had to force their way inside. No one was home and no injuries were reported, but investigators are still working to determine how the Jackson blaze started.
   

3. Jackson bus workers negotiate new contract as current deal expires (wlbt.com) — Bus workers who keep Jackson’s JTRAN system running are in tense contract talks that could affect riders’ daily transportation early next year. Their union is pushing for better pay, safer working conditions, and about 20 more operators to ease exhausting 12-hour shifts. Fifth Circuit allows Jackson State administrators sex discrimination lawsuit to proceed (wapt.com) — A federal appeals court has cleared the way for Jackson State University vice president Debra Mays Jackson’s sex discrimination lawsuit over the 2023 JSU presidential search to move forward. The Fifth Circuit said her allegations against Mississippi’s college board are strong enough for the case to return to federal district court, where it could proceed to discovery or even trial.
