Here are the top three stories in Jackson today:

  1. Jackson police arrested 43-year-old Jessica R. Blount of Jackson for murder on Jun. 16. According to authorities, a man's body was found during an apartment fire at the Sunset Plaza Apartments on Sunset Drive two days prior to her arrest. The victim was later identified as 41-year-old Anthony Michael Wilson and according to Deputy Chief Tyrone Buckley, Wilson appeared to have died from blunt force trauma. (WJTV)
  2. According to state officials, more than 49,000 homes were without power in central Mississippi as of Monday morning, Jun. 19. Residents in one Jackson neighborhood finally got power back on Sunday afternoon, Jun. 18, after living without power since Friday, Jun. 16. But then Sunday evening's storms knocked out power again. Entergy Mississippi President and CEO Haley Fisackerly said they are "working as quickly and as safely as possible," and the company has called in 6,000 workers to help restore the power. (WAPT)
  3. A series of tornadoes tore through Mississippi on Sunday night, Jun. 18, resulting in one fatality and around 20 injuries, according to officials. The storms brought hail and high temperatures along with the tornadoes, causing damage across the state. Thousands of homes were left without power, and search and rescue operations were conducted by emergency crews in affected areas, including Jasper County and Rankin County. The state government, led by Gov. Tate Reeves, has set up command centers and shelters to assist those displaced by the severe weather. (ABC 7 Chicago)
