Thousands Remain Without Power Near Jackson In Wake Of Tornado
Over 20,000 customers in Mississippi, including 4,000 in the Jackson area, remain without power after tornadoes hit the state Wednesday.
JACKSON, MS — More than 20,000 customers remain without power Thursday morning, including more than 4,000 in the Jackson area, after severe thunderstorms and tornadoes swept through Mississippi on Wednesday.
Most of the power outages are located in the western half of the state. In Hinds and Madison counties, where Jackson is located, a combined 4,939 customers are experiencing outages as of 9:45 a.m., according to poweroutage.us.
Entergy Mississippi issued a statement Thursday morning that 13,000 of its customers are without power as of 9 a.m., down from 33,000, with outages scattered throughout its service area.

The company's outage map shows a few outages scattered throughout Jackson city limits with a higher concentration in the southwest portion of the metro. Some of the areas affected include those near Raymond, Palestine and Byram.
A tornado touched down in Jackson on Wednesday, causing structure damage in parts of the metro.
