33 Affton High Schoolers Place in DECA Competition

Students attended the Missouri DECA District Career Development Conference on Feb. 4.

Affton High School DECA students attended the Missouri DECA District Career Development Conference on Feb. 4, with 33 students and 13 entries placing in the district competition, according to a news release from the school district. Conference focuses on marketing, finance, hospitality, management, and entrepreneurship.

Jessica Reed, a junior and the District 9 vice president for the Missouri Association of DECA, served as emcee during the awards ceremony. Additionally, the following Affton High School students were awarded medals and trophies for their performance:

  • Aubrey Smith and Hannah Talley: Business Operations Research, 1st place
  • Frances Garren and Amela Ibisevic: Fashion Merchandising Promotion Plan, 1st place
  • Kyle Vance: Hospitality Services, 1st place
  • Jordan Olsen and Jessica Reed: Business Operations Research, 2nd place
  • Wilbur Sharpe: Food Marketing, 2nd place
  • Chloe Escobar and Kyle Vance: Hospitality Operations Research, 2nd place
  • Olivia Owens: Leadership Delegate, 2nd place
  • Olivia Owens and Caron Talley: Fashion Merchandising Promotion Plan, 3rd place
  • Abbey Oster and Tory Schleper: Business Law and Ethics, 4th place
  • Lucas Palliser and Scott Schroer: Buying and Merchandising, 4th place
  • Emerson Bearden and Amber Sinamon: Hospitality Services, 5th place
  • Chloe Escobar and Jessica Reed: Travel and Tourism, 5th place
  • Kurt Walker: Sports and Entertainment Marketing, 6th place

Students who received third place or better will move on to compete at the State Career Development Conference, March 17-19.
