Deceased Ballwin Man’s Home’s Temperature Was 91 Degrees

The St. Louis Health Department confirmed that the man's air conditioning unit was not working properly.

On Tuesday, an 89-year-old man in Ballwin was found dead in his home after neighbors called the police to check on him.

The medical examiner’s office reported that Franklin C. Trumpeter, of the 400 block of Monticello Drive, was in his residence with an air conditioning unit that was not working properly and a temperature in his home of 91 degrees.

Neighbors called police on July 17 after last seeing Trompeter, who lived alone, on July 15.

β€œThe health department continues to urge all residents to take appropriate precautions duringΒ this period of extreme heat,” said a health department press release on the death, which becomes the third heat-related death in St. Louis County and 23 in the St. Louis Metropolitan area.

Ballwin Police Officer Sarah Bonsee, who handles media communications, urged residents to not be shy about checking on their neighbors.

β€œJust keep an eye on them and if you haven’t seen them for a day or so, there is nothing wrong with checking on them or calling us to check on them,” Bonsee said. Β

Also on Tuesday, a 62 year old homeless man died from the heat. The man was found in an abandoned house in the metro east area.
