Scotty’s Fresh Produce Likely Moving in Along Manchester Road

The proposal for Scotty's Fresh Produce Market and Deli to move to Manchester is in the preliminary stages, but it is being reviewed by the Manchester Planning and Zoning Commission.

Scotty's owner Mark Sgroi tells Patch the process is moving along and at this point it appears the market will move into the historic part of the city.

"We're shooting for a March first opening date," Sgroi said. "We're probably at an 85 percent, 'Yeah this is a go.'" 

Manchester Alderman Michael Clement, who serves as the liaison to the planning and zoning commission, tells Patch that Sgroi is seeking a Special Use Permit to open the business in the former Meramec Valley Bank building at 14444 Manchester Road.  

This would be the second Scotty's Fresh Produce Market location in the St. Louis area. There is currently a Scotty's in Overland that Sgroi said offers fresh fruits and vegetables from local and regional farmers.

"The business sounds interesting and appealing, particularly in an area of old Manchester," Clement stated in an email to Patch.

Scotty's has already secured the building off Manchester Road and now needs plans approved by the City of Manchester and St. Louis County, Sgroi explained.

Sgroi is optimistic the plan will become a reality. He said his business was actually scouted out by a local real estate agent who felt Scotty's would be a good fit for the location.

"They pretty much all welcomed us in," Sgroi said of the City of Manchester. He added that the location of the building and the history behind it made it clear to his business that this would be a good fit. "It looks like it's a one time opportunity. We better jump on it."

If approved by Manchester's planning and zoning commission, the proposal would then have to be approved by the Manchester Board of Aldermen before Scotty's could move into the city.
