The Week Ahead: School Transfers, Sales Tax Holiday & International Baseball
We're taking a look at stories of interest this week impacting Ballwin and Ellisville.

- Ballwin will once again be host to a large contingent of youth baseball players from around the world this week. The 2013Β 2013 International Kenko Baseball Tournament starts Saturday August 3, but the athletes, who come from Japan, Australia and Europe and will be staying with local host families, arrive Thursday. Opening ceremonies at the Ballwin Athletic Association fields are scheduled for Friday night and the games themselves start Saturday.
- By the end of the week, school districts will have aΒ much better idea about where thousands of students in the failing Riverview Gardens and Normandy School Districts will be allowed to transfer, and to see how many of them will end up in Parkway or RockwoodΒ Schools. Administrators from around the area will gather FridayΒ at theΒ Cooperating School Districts of Greater St. Louis office where they will determine which specific schools will absorb the students. In addition, Riverview Gardens will announce a secondary district where it will transport transferringΒ students at no family cost, after Mehlville school leaders indicated they only had room for a few hundred students.Β There is some speculation that Parkway could end up being that district.
- Friday starts Missouri's annual Sales Tax Free Holiday Weekend. Not all communities in the area are participating (Ballwin is, Ellisville is not), and there are some particular rules that go along with it. We'll fill you in.
