UPDATED: In Spite of Rain, Ellisville Fireworks Still Postponed

The event will be postponed until sometime in August or September.

In spite of Monday night's flash storm in Ballwin and Ellisville, the and have confirmed that the city's Fourth of July celebrations will continue to be postponed until sometime in August or September.

"There are no changes to the area because of last night's storm," said Metro West Fire Marshall DavidΒ Phipps. "We still have a high fire hazard risk in Ballwin and Ellisville."

Last night's storm helped bring air temperatures down to 78 degrees by 6 p.m. in Ballwin and Ellisvilleβ€”that's about 20 degrees lower from the day's high temperatures.

Rain broke out in the West County area, including Ballwin, Monday about 4:15 p.m., preceded by lots of thunder and lightening. Rain is predicted for Tuesday as well.

Several trees fell down in Ballwin streets, some on top of power lines, although Ballwin police said there were no reports of power outtages.Β 

The National Weather Service continues to have in place an excessive heat warning for the St. Louis County region with temperatures reaching a high of 101 degrees.

There is a 20 percent chance of rain in the area today, although it won't do much good for Independence Day temperatures, which could be as high as 107 degrees, according to NWS.
