Chesterfield Celebrates Its History with Timeline Posters
The posters present a pictorial timeline of the area and are being displayed at business and other gather spots throughout the month of June. Have you spotted one?
The study of history may seem a bit tedious to some, but Chesterfield’s Historic and Landmark Preservation Commission is hoping to enliven the city’s celebration of its past with a colorful pictorial timeline.
In honor of the city’s 25th anniversary, the commission printed 20 large, high-quality posters chronicling Chesterfield’s origins from the area’s earliest pre-history through the city’s founding and on up to its more modern accomplishments. The story is told through 27 large, colorful pictures and graphics curated by commission member Bill England.
However, it was no easy task. The commission said England spent many hours restoring and scanning old prints and photos, making illustrations and laying out the poster. Other commission members retrieved old visuals that had been stored in files, unopened for years.

City council member Connie Fults, Chesterfield Chief Planner Aimee Nassif, Economic Development Services Director Libbey Tucker and other city staff members contributed more recent photos.
The posters were formally presented to the city at a May council meeting and will be displayed at businesses and gathering spots throughout the month of June. In July, they will be retrieved and loaned to the area’s elementary schools.
