Chesterfield Hears Fighter Jets Roar Overhead Friday

Air National Guard fighters were said to be flying overhead Friday in Chesterfield, at least three times between 7 a.m. and noon.

The jet engine sounds were extremely loud—and unusual—for Chesterfield residents in the path of aircraft apparently running between Lambert-St. Louis International Airport and Chesterfield's airports.

Local first responders identified the aircraft as fighters making a run to refuel at Chesterfield's .

Missouri's National Guard has a facility at Lambert-St. Louis International Airport just northwest of St. Louis, including the 131st Bomb Wing, according to the Missouri National Guard Wikipedia entry. Fighter aircraft F-15s and B-2 stealth bombers are linked to the 131st.

Early morning cloud cover made the military-style aircraft invisible to residents on the ground, but there was no missing the unnerving blare of jet engines overhead in neighborhoods surrounding the Chesterfield Mall.

Flyovers were heard about 7:30 a.m., 9:30 a.m. and 11:50 a.m. Friday.

One resident said items shook and rattled in his house at the time.
