Abercrombie & Fitch to Close 180 Stores Over the Year

Parent company to close Hollister stores too.

Abercrombie & Fitch, and Hollister Co. clothing will see 180 stores on the chopping block for closings over the coming year, according to an article in The Wall Street Journal.

There is no public list of specific stores to close, but both stores were located in There is one in West County Mall.

The stores to close would be U.S. stores, parent Abercrombie & Fitch Co. said. They market clothes and accessories to teens and 20-somethings.

Top company officials said it was growing its international market, and would like to close under-performing stores immediately, but did not reveal a plan.

The timing of closings would generally coincide with the end of store leases. Other stores could close earlier. Stores not operating at certain margins were the ones to go.

A Chesterfield Patch user said the twostores closed "months ago."

Some 135 stores were already closed nationwide over the past two years. In March, the company had 1,049 stores total, The WSJ said.

Company CFO Jonathan Ramsden made the announcement about more closings in Paris from a global consumer conference Wednesday, according to The Wall Street Journal. He said the cost of raw materials and price-cutting competition were to blame.
