Chesterfield's "Welcome" signs on various roads have competition now with information that leads to questions about the veracity of signs' population figures.
Within some 25 yards of each other on Clayton Road near Schoetter Road, we have two signs with two different popuations for the city.
One green metal sign says 47,484 population in Chesterfield.

Chesterfield's population grew 1.5 percent in the decade from 2000 to 2010, according to U.S. Census summaries.
The competiting signs can be spotted on Schoettler Road and Clayton Road near Schoettler.
Chesterfield is a city of about 32 square miles. Nearly a quarter of the population is childrenβunder 18 years old. A fifth of residents are over 65 years old, according to the Census.
