One Chesterfield witness said it looked like a car "had exploded" in the intersection, when he came upon the scene sometime after, but police were still there. Police appeared to be puncturing inflated air bags that had separated from the wreck.
No word yet on what led up to the crash. Police said Kraus was wearing a seatbelt.
His body was taken to the St. Louis County Morgue by the medical examiner, police said.
