Police: Parkway Central Senior Arrested After Cyber-Bully Complaint

An 18-year-old boy faces day in court on harassment misdemeanor, and expulsion hearing in school district.

An 18-year-old Parkway Central boy was arrested Saturday, Chesterfield police said, after a 17-year-old girl's parents complained to police their daughter was being badgered by cell phone text messages.

Police said while the high school senior had not been charged, the arrest centered on harassmentβ€”a misdemeanor. He was released on a summons, police said.

Typically, a municipal court date would be set over the matter after a release on a summons.

Neither police nor school officials were identifying by name the parties involved.

Police said the complaint described text messages that were sent also to female friends of the 17-year-old. Facebook posts were also described in the complaint, police said.

Parents of the 17-year-old girl also alerted school officials about the alleged harassment, police said.

Spokeswoman Cathy Kelly for Parkway School District told Patch:

"We don't tolerate harassment of any kind, take every incident very seriously and will do whatever it takes to keep students safe. We're confident our handling of this situation has been both fair and appropriate."

Privacy laws can prevent school officials from making specifics public about students, without parental permission.

While neither police nor the school district would confirm whether the 18-year-old boy was still attending Parkway Central,Β KMOV.com said Tuesday the senior faced a hearing over possible expulsion.
