Suburban Leisure Center To Be Vet Expansion

Listing shows sale price drop from $2.3 million to $975,000 over a year.

is going to take over the former Suburban Leisure Center that closed in September 2011 after 50 years.

The group of four vets have been located nearly next door, at 14161 Olive Blvd., for many years.

There are no firm dates or prices on the deal, according to the vet center or property sellers. It was unclear whether it was a sale, or a lease.

The buildings on the 1.11 acres are advertised as 16,800 square feet, built in 1952, is listed at $975,000 or $58.04 a square foot, as of the end of 2011.

In September, the same property was listed at $1.31 million. A year ago, it was listed at $2.3 million.

Listings showed an option to lease part or all of the property. Sale included all of the property.

The Suburban Leisure store, a shopping landmark of sorts at 14015-17 Olive Boulevard sold off its outdoor furniture, barbecue grills, electric fireplaces, and other products, over what seemed like most of last year.

A "retirement" sale in 2008 had many believing the store was about to close. However, when the family-owned shop had its final sale in 2011, 70-year-old owner Harvey Keymer had already started his new business ventureβ€”in-home health care facilitator. Son Scott Keymer called it a "happy ending."

Veterinarians listed with the Chesterfield group to move into the much larger space include: James J. Flasar, Mary E. Astorino, Joe Holzhauer and Tara Hartke.
