Trader Joe's Recalls Peanut Butter, Chesterfield Store Involved

Trader Joe’s is involved in a voluntary recall of salmonella-tainted peanut and almond butter.

Only the Trader Joe's Valencia Peanut Butter and the Almond Butter with Roasted Flax Seeds are being recalled.

In Chesterfield, spokesman for the Trader Joe's store on Clarkson Road said the products have been off the shelves for more than a week, after the company put the voluntary recall into effect.

Customers are warmed to heed the recall if they still have these products in their home pantry.

If you purchased these products, do not eat them. Please return the product to your supermarket for a full refund or dispose of it.

In the latest update, 35 people in 19 states have reported salmonella food poisoning that was later linked to the contaminated nut butters, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The almond and peanut butters were manufactured between May 1 and Sept. 24 by Sunland, Inc.

About two-thirds of the illness were reported in children younger than 10.

Salmonella symptoms include nausea, diarrhea, vomiting and abdominal pain. It can cause infections in the very young or old and people with weakened immune systems.
