The Clayton Fire House served as the backdrop for this year's Burns Recovered Survivors Christmas Party.  The mission of Burns Recovered is to is to help every burn survivor live life to the fullest without limitations, fear, or insecurity.  Firefighter/Paramedic Dylan Abbett volunteers his time every year at the Burn Camp for kids.  When he heard that the organization lost their venue for this year's party, he worked to ensure that the kids did not go without and lead the charge in allowing the Clayton Fire Department to host these amazing kids and families.  Dylan is the prime example of how we try to display our core value of integrity.

The Greater St. Louis Fire Chiefs Association held their annual awards ceremony this week and among those honored were Battalion Chief Jason Hildebrandt, Captain Ryan Harrell, Engineer Steve Wood, Firefighter/Paramedic Craig Kneale and Former Firefighter/Paramedic Josh Barnaby.  These members received a Unit Citation for their actions that resulted in a successful outcome from a complex vehicle rescue in May of this year.  These members exemplified our core value of discipline in helping to carry out our organizational mission.

Due to the horrific storms that rolled through the Midwest last weekend, three members of the Clayton Fire Department were called upon to provide aid outside of the city limits due to their high levels of expertise in rescue and emergency management.  Captain Brian Neukirch and Firefighter/Paramedic Tom Heggemeyer were deployed to Edwardsville Illinois as Rescue Technicians with Task Force 3 to provide assistance in the efforts at Amazon warehouse collapse.  Fire Chief Ernie Rhodes was deployed to Kentucky as part of Missouri USAR Task force 1.  TF1 has searched over 4,000 homes for victims and provided humanitarian efforts as well.  These members are living out our department mission as a resource on a federal level.

Members of the Fire Department met with representatives from the Pratt Cancer Center regarding this year's donation from the Annual Breast Cancer Awareness BBQ.  Thanks to an anonymous donor who matched the proceeds from the BBQ, the Clayton Fire Department Community Outreach Committee was able to present them with a check for $3,500 to help further research and treatment in the name of retiree Bo Watkins’ late wife, Patty.
